The Fifth Congress of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan re-elects Pavel Talabani as president
The Fifth Congress of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) elected Pavel Talabani as party president again.

During its evening session of the first day of the Fifth Congress of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, the Congress unanimously re-elected Bafel Jalal Talabani as President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.
On Wednesday 27/9/2023, in the presence of Pavel Talabani, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, President of the Republic of Iraq, Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, leaders and representatives of Iraqi and Kurdish parties, ambassadors, consuls and representatives of a number of regional and international countries, the work of the Fifth Conference of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan began in the Art Palace Hall in Sulaymaniyah.
The conference lasts 3 days and is attended by 600 delegates, during which the number of members of the leadership council will be reduced to 51 members, including the president of the National Union, and the number of members of the political bureau will be reduced to 10.
The conference will propose the formation of 3 councils, namely the Supreme Council for Policies and Interests, the Leadership Council and the Support Council, and the President of the National Union will directly supervise the Support Council, which works to qualify new cadres of youth and women, and will be a center for the formation of young leaders.
Amending the PUK’s rules of procedure will be one of the tasks of the Fifth Congress, where party centralization will be strengthened and all decisions will be taken after the congress unanimously.
