Statement to the public opinion regarding the escalation in the Syrian coast

In light of the escalation of tensions in the Syrian coastal areas, the Syrian Democratic Council affirms that protecting the lives of Syrians, regardless of their affiliations, is an absolute priority, and no justifications for escalating violence against civilians or local institutions can be accepted, and the Council calls on the Damascus authority to give priority to the voice of reason and assume its national responsibilities urgently towards these events, and stresses that targeting civilians and local police is a flagrant violation of civil peace, and a condemnable act that must be stopped immediately.

We categorically reject military confrontations, and call for addressing the causes of tension through serious and responsible dialogue, away from militarization and sectarian charges, while giving priority to the national interest to avoid repeating painful experiences in the history of Syria and neighboring countries.

Civil peace is the cornerstone of any stable and secure future, and any form of violence or sectarian incitement will only deepen divisions and prolong suffering, and therefore we call on all Syrians to reject sedition and hate speech, and to join hands to protect the fabric of society, and work to build bridges of dialogue and understanding, as Syria will only promote the unity of its people, and respect for the diversity that constitutes its national identity.

In this context, we warn against a major escalation that returns Syria to the cycle of violence, serves the enemies of peace, and harms the security and unity of the country, and based on our national responsibility, we call on all political actors to engage in a real national dialogue, leading to a comprehensive political solution.

We also stress the need to establish a transitional justice mechanism to hold the perpetrators of crimes accountable, and to establish a clear path for national reconciliation, ensuring the achievement of justice in parallel with the comprehensive national peace process, and at the same time, we warn against the attempts of regional powers to exploit the internal conflict in Syria, and we believe that international silence is unjustified and unacceptable, therefore, we call on the United Nations and the Security Council to take more serious and firm positions, by issuing a binding resolution for a ceasefire throughout Syria, and supporting an inclusive and feasible political process that ensures Stability and an end to the cycle of violence.

We in the Syrian Democratic Council renew our commitment to work for a just political solution that achieves peace and stability, and guarantees a secure and prosperous future for all Syrians, away from the logic of wars and conflicts that have brought nothing but destruction and suffering.
