From Damascus to Beijing. Syrians want a solution

Ammar Al-Matouq-Damascus
In the context of the Syrian reality, which seems to be intractable, the ruling authority in Damascus is trying to show itself as a state practicing its political activity at various levels, and in connection with that, the state of political marketing of the authority was not limited to the meeting of the PA’s foreign minister, with his counterparts in Jordan, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, or other countries, as well as the political meetings on the sidelines of summits and conferences, are not considered political custom, as a state of harmony and convergence of ideas and work to implement them in reality, as much as What is a state of political investment, but in a media framework, which is being circulated by the authority, to confirm that the Syrian reality is proceeding in a parallel context, and does not depart from that political marketing situation, Assad’s visit to China, and the allocation of large analytical media spaces by the authority’s media, and the analysis of this “strategic achievement”, so that all these attempts seem like giving a dose to a body exhausted by diseases.
The Syrian reality, in all its aspects and data, needs volumes to refute it, especially since the Syrian file is complex and becoming more complex day by day, and looking deeply at the mood of the Syrians in the areas controlled by the authority, it is clear that the Syrians, despite tampering with their living and economic reality, are forced to follow these political events, not from the point of view of paying attention to the steps of the authority, as much as it is an attempt to anticipate those steps, and read between the lines, in the hope of finding a political solution that ends this “political farce”.
Here, we are not going to approach the reality of the Syrians, as much as we would like to highlight some points, which must have become the foundations of the Syrian file, and international action must also be taken to end them, and therefore the Syrian crisis has become within a clear UN resolution, entitled 2254, and the matter is no longer Russian, Iranian or Chinese, or agreement on solutions that suit the three former countries only, the matter is more complex and deeper than that, especially since the Syrian file has become outside any political logic, and all attempts to breathe the soul In the body of the authority, they are attempts to prolong its life, and perhaps it is more useful for the allies of the authority to pressure it within the framework of Resolution 2254, to save the Syrians from their crisis, without that, they are the partners of the authority in complicating any solution that affects the Syrian crisis, and clear evidence that the allies of the authority build their approach based on their interests, without caring about the reality of the Syrians, which is becoming increasingly dangerous and complex, while prolonging the life of the authority politically.
If, despite the pain and crises of the Syrians, the PA is trying to generalize an unrealistic political model, so that Assad’s visit to China, and the accompanying “funny” analyses, is a realistic portrayal and embodiment of the illusions of power, as well as the equations of victory, strategic turn, regional and international displacement, as well as Syria, the heart of the world, and other illusions that the authority is trying to promote, but they are terms that no longer convince the Syrians who are exhausted by the policies of the authority, and on the other hand, the solution is not in China, and the Chinese money that some fancy flowing to areas of control. The PA needs a stable political environment and a solid ground with political and economic elements to receive and invest in it and try to change the reality of the Syrians, but all of the above does not have the tools of the areas under the control of the authority. Therefore, this visit is nothing more than a smokescreen at the eyes, internally, regionally and internationally, to delude everyone that the Authority is still in control.
Certainly, we believe in the logic of dialogue and exchange of views, and there is no harm in presenting political approaches that serve the Syrians first and foremost, and within that, it is logical to highlight Assad’s visit to China, from a political and economic point of view, and the possible and expected effects of that visit, in a way that serves Syria and the Syrians. In connection with this, it is important to note that China did not want to invite Assad to visit it in a purely political capacity, but the invitation came within the framework of a sporting event, to which a number of world leaders were invited, and therefore China in this context, despite its political and economic war with the United States and the West, wishes not to provoke them, and perhaps China is waiting for Western and American reactions to that invitation, which will have political repercussions that affect China first, and strengthen the political stranglehold on power second.
In the same context, talking about a strategic agreement signed between China and Syria, a number of strategic agreements were also signed between China and the countries that attended on the same occasion, so Syria is no exception, and it is not possible in any way to say that Syria is in the custody of China, and that investment projects will flow to Syria, announcing the reconstruction phase.
In the previous part, reconstruction in Syria first needs an international decision, because that stage requires international loans and grants, and regional and international understandings, and given that the West, Washington and some regional countries do not recognize the existence of power politically, reconstruction and other files will not be completed before the start of the political transition in Syria, and therefore China is aware of these facts, and cannot bypass UN resolutions unilaterally, as China is not a political force capable of influencing, even if it has China is commercially dependent on the markets of the United States and Europe, and will not risk losing those markets, as a tribute to Assad.
The other thing, the authority, as a result of its economic policies, is looking for financial support to prolong its life, and silence the Syrians who began to go out in demonstrations demanding change, as a result of the authority’s policies that exhausted the Syrians, and increased their poverty and destitution, but China is not a charitable association that provides its money for free, and China also, although there is a lot of talk about the Belt and Road project, and the importance of Syria as a site in this way, but it wants a politically stable Syria, free from rampant corruption, no quotas or royalties for the influential, and therefore China does not Syria sees a meal rich in economic investments, and at the same time does not want to compete with Russia and Iran, or share interests between them in the Syrian geography, or share the remaining vital structures in Syria.
In conclusion, it seems clear that Syria, in its current reality, is not a priority for China, and Assad’s visit to China is nothing more than a political and media investment, and on the other hand, China, given the political reality in Syria, is not serious in its orientations towards Syria, and China cannot move Syria from reality to reality, without an international resolution, and despite the existence of this resolution No. 2254, and despite China’s approval of its points, the authority is still maneuvering and trying to circumvent this in various ways. The Syrians are still suffering from endless crises, waiting for the winds to move the Syrian file and put it on the roads to a solution, and until that time, God was helping the Syrians in the areas controlled by the authority.
